Using an IBM R2 Heron quantum processor with 156 qubits, researchers simulated a 60-nucleotide-long mRNA chain. Researchers from the tech giant IBM and the pharmaceutical company Moderna succeeded in reproducing such living matter on a quantum computer without the use of artificial intelligence. This set a record for quantum computing in this area, which was previously limited to 42 nucleotides.
When we talk about threats in outer space, our minds may wander through different elements, from possible intergalactic creatures to cosmic disasters. However, we forget one of the most important hazards, which affects interplanetary missions on a large scale and, therefore, the health of astronauts: cosmic radiation. This paper explores electrostatic shields as a NASA initiative to protect astronauts during space missions.
